network scanner in java

we (me,shanavas,rakesh,ashish) are doing a project in java network scanner.
It displays all the shared folders in a LAN and have additional functionalities also.
if any of you have any tips for us like simple APIs for network programming ,graphics
,UDP etc pls send mail to harisankarh@engineer.com .
any sample codes are also welcome!
